Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav made caste-based remarks about Wing Commander Vyomika Singh during a party event in Bilari, Moradabad. Vyomika Singh had recently been in the news for her role in providing information about Operation Sindoor. At the event, Ramgopal Yadav mistakenly referred to her as Divya Singh before making comments using caste-related language. He also named the castes of other military officers.
Ramgopal Yadav’s comments came during a Samajwadi Party program where he was addressing a gathering. The remarks were made after SP MP Aditya Yadav interrupted him. The specific caste references used by Ramgopal Yadav in relation to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sophia Qureshi drew criticism from various quarters.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah made objectionable comments about Colonel Sophia Qureshi. Following his remarks, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered registration of an FIR against him. However, a double bench of the High Court later criticized the language of the FIR and termed it a formality rather than substantive action.
The case involving Vijay Shah was further taken to the Supreme Court, which reprimanded the minister. The Supreme Court emphasized that individuals holding constitutional positions must act responsibly and maintain decorum. Minister Vijay Shah had challenged the High Court’s order in the Supreme Court, which accepted his petition.
These incidents have highlighted the sensitivity around caste-based and objectionable remarks involving military officers. The remarks by political figures in public forums have drawn attention due to their potential impact on public discourse and the image of armed forces personnel.
